About a Bird
Updated: Dec 6, 2020
My name is Jessica. Welcome to my little lost sock pile of the internet.
My day to day life is not the most exciting, as I feel any mom will understand - I don't jet-set to amazing places on the regular, I don't attend glamorous events, hell - I don't even put on a bra most days of the week. Are bras even still a thing in 2020? But for all of the boring hum of every day life, there is nearly 40 years of experiences—mistakes, hard lessons learned, funny stories, heartbreak, intense therapy, things I wish someone had told me sooner, triumphs, and a shit-ton of hindsight.
I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel here, but I am here in the hopes that I can be of use and help to you. Whether it be learning from my mistakes and saving yourself the trouble, finding some efficient tips, learning something new or at the very least - watching this cluster-fluff of a life unfold as a form of entertainment, I hope you can take something away from this space and our time together.
With that said, let's get some of the basics out of the way.
I'm soon to be 38 years old. Divorced once. Mama to a couple of pretty amazing, albeit exhausting, teenage kids. Remarried to the most brilliant, albeit frustrating, man I know. Treat dispenser and snuggle buddy to a 5lb. Yorkie named Yuca (Yoo-kah, and yes - like the starchy potato-like root tuber). Due to the pandemic, I have recently embarked upon homeschooling our kids.
I've been a photographer for over 15 years and a designer for over 10. I currently work as a Creative Director in the field of Politics and Fundraising and NO, this blog will not include politics. I've worked in a variety of industries including movie and television, marketing, radio/podcasting, news, technology, manufacturing, and print/publishing and all without a traditional education or a college degree. This gives me that lovely little chip on my shoulder we call Imposter Syndrome, that I hope not to spend a lifetime trying to unpack. I've also written pretty much my entire life - journaling, moody teenage poetry - the usual, but always for myself. I've included a fun little graphic below of a few more random things about me - I don't want to give it all away right now though, I need to keep you coming back for more (wink).
